Work From Home Ideas

Maybe you have ever heard or probably already familiar with the WFH terminology, it is abbreviation for Work From Home. I want to discuss this topic based on my personal experience, it might be vary or totally different with others' experience.

It is one condition where going to office everyday is not a mandatory for you, you can work from any places in this corner of the world, you can work while you still also be able to take a good care of your personal things like family, relatives or even your hobby. It will allowing you to have ideal work-life balance, doesn't it looks nice?  - Indeed.

It is not as simple as you may assume, it has many advantages and disadvantages. Mostly here in Indonesia, this kind of working pattern is yet in common and very well practice among the employers both state-owned or private-owned. Because the 'culture' of physical presence is still important, some may think that you are not working if you are not there. 

WFH pattern is still limited to particular sector, because it has many dependencies to company's core business, regulation, infrastructure, etc. With the advancement of IT and Internet technology, as long as you have your PC, Laptop, Tablet and internet connection WFH is not a big deal. You can connect to your company's internal network through VPN (Virtual Private Network), accessing all the resources within your company's network as easy as you are sitting in your office desk. To make it possible, definitely company must do a lot of investments on its infrastructure and for some, they want to avoid it.  

As I mentioned before, it has many advantages and disadvantages. Just browse on the net, it will give you thousands pros and cons of it. Some studies has concluded that WFH has following factors to be considered:



Working from home will increase the efficiency and productivity but it will sacrifice the other side, which is creativity and collaboration, because to do so, we need to interact with our peers and co-workers. 

So if you have an opportunity to work in this pattern, don't forget to be thankful for that kind of luxury and privilege and also don't forget to manage it wisely.

  1. Hey, thanks for sharing. I am mostly agree with what you've written.
    The tricky part is how to manage it wisely. Not everyone can manage his/her time effectively. Why? I'd think because there are way much distractions they'll be facing at home comparing to when they're working at the office.
    I would say, most employers will not granted this kind of privy when they've learned that their employee wont be able to manage it.

    1. Exactly, there might be a time when we can not avoid any distractions while working from home, so maturity level & sense of ownership of employee will require. And also, this kind of pattern may not suitable to employee that needs to deal with peoples face to face every day.
